I am very excited by potential of the recent paper by I. T. Song et al., “Thermal runaway prevention through scalable fabrication of safety reinforced layer in practical Li-ion batteries”, Nature Communications, v15 (2024) 6806. It reports that a thin layer of a polythiophene derivative between cathode and cathode current collector can prevent thermal runaway, even by nail penetration.
